Electronic Medical Records (EMRs)

a collection of three images of people affected by an EMR. A young child has his ears checked by a doctor; another patient is shown something on a laptop by her physicians; and a physician and her patient sit smiling.

Electronic Medical Records (EMRs) allow clinics to track, organize and manage patient information.

EMRs are computer-based patient medical records systems that can help clinics provide safer, more efficient patient care. They enable health-care providers to access patient information in a secure and timely manner, make informed decisions about patient care, timely diagnosis and treatment recommendations, and enhance the delivery of care in rural and remote regions of the province.

Digital Health, through our Primary Care/Community Information Systems (PCIS) Office, helps support the adoption and effective use of EMRs in part by setting standards for Provincial EMR Certification and managing certification of EMR Products.
